Why I was so disheartened.
Wednesday, October 22, 2008

Pardon the quality of this picture. My sister used her camera phone, see. (Read my previous article about this bed if you haven't already). This was the result of the bed that I choose for one of my sister's spare bedrooms. See how big the mattress and box is? I contemplated returning the mattress and box but both my sister and cousins confirm it is the most comfortable thing out there -- "heaven" was what they called it. And the price was so nice so thank God we have another solution (a smaller box frame).
I'm crossing my fingers the next update will be happy news.

Disheartened.
I can't tell you how many times I stalk costplus.com because of their dark wooded beds and their awesome solid wood dining tables. The sole purpose of my Vegas trip last week was to help my sister furniture shop. Now that she has a spare bedroom open, she gave me the power to choose whatever bed I wanted -- within a budget, that is. I knew exactly what I was going to look for but at $499, there were better deals to be had. This is the Taranto bed from costplus.com that I want so much for my own master bedroom (but have yet to purchase):
If you've been to the Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, and Crate & Barrell websites, you'll know there are no beds on those sites even remotely close to $499 so costplus.com is really such good value. Thankfully, we were able to find something which I thought had a similar look and idea -- but at half of the price. Score!
Or so I thought. The bed was delivered a few days ago and my sister immediately sent me a picture of the results (we only ordered the bed and the bedside tables are on its way - picture of bed to be posted later). After seeing the picture of the bed with the mattress and box frame, I was so disheartened. I didn't take into consideration the height of the bed versus the height of the mattress and the box . To make matters worse, I choose a pillowtop mattress which adds more height to the mattress itself. The mattress and box overpowers the bed! Wait until you see what I'm talking about. Looking at the sample picture of the bed we choose, there doesn't seem to be a box frame underneath the mattress, deceiving you into thinking the height of the bed is higher than it really is. Only I would be dumb enough not to think about the height. (We didn't go into a normal furniture store - it wasn't a showroom type of store. You have catalogs to browse through and then you choose what you want, they order it and it's delivered right to your doorstep days later. That explains why I didn't notice the height of the bed, etc).
Hopefully, when the smaller box is delivered on Wednesday (free delivery again and no extra charges -- gotta love the customer service at lvfurniture.com!), my sister will have better news (and picture). I hope a smaller box will make a world of difference.

Scooter to the rescue.
Monday, October 20, 2008
My dad's friend just recently injured himself and as a result, he can't do all the things that he used to do on his own. I can't imagine how terrible he might be feeling right now but I suggested to my dad that he mention The Scooter Store to his friend -- a scooter might just be what he needs to get through this difficult time. Afterall, there is nothing worse than not being able to do our simple tasks of daily living. The Scooter Store is really easy to work with -- they'll walk his friend through the steps of securing his own scooter. A medical evaluation would be needed to see if he could qualify for Medicare coverage and from there, The Scooter Store takes care of all the details so that before he knows it, he's back to his daily routines.

What used to be.
A few minutes ago, I found myself looking at several of my first posts for this blog. It's amazing how bad my entries have deteriorated in more than a year. I don't write quality posts anymore. I don't put as much time and thought into them as I used to. Seems to me, I'm doing what I need to do just for the monetary gain (you know what I'm talking about!). It's sad. Sad because I really enjoyed (if you don't mind me saying so) rereading some of my earlier posts. So full of information and so full of emotion. Nowadays? I'm dry.
I want to make it a goal to start blogging worthy entries. It's nice to reminisce, I realize now.

Jinxed.
Spoke too soon. My face is crazy once again. I have bumps and redness occurring everywhere. Hubby's just started the Pro-Activ system and his face is looking real good. Major improvement. I, on the other hand, am freaking out and wondering if I should just try the darn stuff already. I don't know why but I never had an inkling of interest to try out Pro-Activ. Maybe I can try out Squalane Products first. These products are supposed to be really good for your skin. I read about it on drlark.com. It's worth checking out.

Over!
Saturday, October 18, 2008

I wonder if the rumors about her and her baseball boyfriend are true. I hope Guy finds a nice lady. What was Madonna thinking in marrying Guy? He looks too nice.
I hope the kids come out okay in all this. (I say Madonna adopts a little kid from Asia. She'd then have herself a United Colors of Benetton gang).

Too much HGTV.
Monday, October 6, 2008
I just realized my mom needs new door hardware. I literally walked around her house and saw that her door knobs don't all match each other! I think she should update her doors as well because those too don't all match each other. Then I started imagining how nice it would be if she painted her walls a nice neutral color and added some crown moulding. But I should talk. I can't even get my own home figured out. Ha!

Huwaaaaaaaat?
I was so shocked to discover there are Nikon binoculars that sell close to $2,000. Holy cow, what are they made of? Gold? And what would one need such an expensive binocular for? I'd love to sample a pair to see what the deal is. I guess if you're shooting a Jason Bourne movie, really fine binoculars would be necessary with all that spying and running going around.
Still. 2K for a pair of binoculars. Wow.

Be gone, suckers.

Looks like I may have found my acne cure for the time being. I don't want to jinx myself but really, I don't have as much breakout lately and there are actually areas where it's just clean and clear. I can't remember the last time my face was like this. I hope it stays this way for as long as it can. I'm tired of them red suckers.

Been there, done that.
Ask me about acne treatment and I'll tell you right now I've pretty much tried it all. I first started with a topical solution wherein my past dermatologist prescribed me a toner to cleanse my face. I was 15ish at the time and my pimples disappeared. Few months (or was it weeks?) later, the pimples came back and this time with a vengeance because they left nasty dark scars that looked like dots. I was then prescribed oral medication (no, not birth control pills!) to clear my skin. I can't recall how long I was on the oral medication but it wasn't long before I was finally prescribed the godfather of all acne treatments--Accutane--because my acne was out of control (I just barely missed that point where the scarring would have been irreversible!). I tell you, name it and I've probably already tried every acne treatment out there.

Thanksgiving.
Much as I'm looking forward to Halloween, I'm really more excited for Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is one of my favorite (if not my favorite) holidays ever. This year, my dad will be with us and my cousins from Vegas will be joining us as well, together with my sister. As early as now, my mom is trying to figure out the menu; I was so shocked when she suggested we have our dinner catered (read: Filipino food). Totally crazy! Thanksgiving is all about the cranberry sauce, a big juicy turkey right in the center of the table, creamy mashed potatoes, a green bean casserole, warm dinner rolls, and delish gravy. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water. Never mind that I gain 5 pounds this Thanksgiving. I can't wait!

What's your Halloween costume?
Saturday, October 4, 2008
A few more weeks to go and it will be trick or treat time again. I really want to be more "festive" this year so I've been thinking of what the husband and I can be (not necessarily together but that would be cute - think the Flinstones!). More than that, I've been racking my brain as to what Erynne will wear this Halloween. We were at Target this evening looking at all the different costumes and while I really wanted to get a Snow Princess outfit (it'd keep her warm outside when she's trick or treating in the cold; she'd be covered from neck to foot!) but her dad didn't agree. Since the three of us couldn't come to an agreement, we decided to move forward and check out all the Halloween decorations. Talk about fun - Target had everything you needed to plan a fabulous Halloween party. They had pumpkin decorations of every size you could imagine, they had Halloween plates, bowls, cups, napkins, cool placecard holders - everything! Unless I overlooked it, what I couldn't find, however, were Halloween invitations. I found that odd. (Speaking of invitations, Christmas cards are out, OMG! Where have I been?).
Anyways. What are YOU going to be for Halloween?

What a deal.

Would you believe me if I told you this whole set only costed $299? Believe it! If you live in Vegas, you need to definitely check out this store that is having a mad clearance sale. Sorry, I don't have the name of the store at the moment but ask me if you're interested.
Where can you get a better deal?! And though I haven't seen it yet, I'm told the fabric is just oh so lovely - soft velvety microfiber. I just love that punch of color!
